Also I would love it if you left me a comment about your ideas & thoughts. Have Fun & Happy Planning – Amy :)

If you want your wedding to stand out in your guests minds as “extra special”, you’ll need to get a little bit creative. You can always have the traditional flowers as centerpieces but for something different, try and include other elements as well. Remember though, that your wedding decoration ideas should tie in to your overall theme.

It is a good idea to continue the theme of your decorations from your ceremony to your reception.

Wedding Recption DecorationFor most people, a beautifully decorated reception is what really makes a wedding special; your guests will remember the way the room made them feel when they first walked into it, so when thinking about wedding decorating ideas, special care on the smaller details can mean a lot. Here are some ideas for you to add a little bit extra at your reception.

Firstly, make sure you check exactly what your reception centre provides in their price.

Centerpieces For WeddingsMost reception centres will include a plain white table cloth and plain white chair covers. They usually charge more to add a coloured or lace or sheer table cloth or table runner and a chair sash. These are great and will add much needed depth and elegance to your tables.

You can rent these from your reception center or you may be able to find them cheaper yourself if you make them, or buy them online. My reception centre charged $8 per table cloth and $2 per chair sash which doesn’t sound like much but adds up when you have 136 guests and 12 tables. Instweddign decorating ideasead, I bought some from an online ebay store for less than $1 each. I organised with the reception centre to drop them off a few days before and they laid them out for me at no extra cost! You’ll be surprised what you can get from your reception centre if only you ask.

Candles are a must for your tables as well, they are romantic & offer the perfect level of illumination, plain coloured candles are best as they are classic, be careful of trying to colour co-ordinate your whole wedding to your bridesmaids, sometimes this ends up looking like a sweet 16 birthday party instead of an elegant wedding celebration.

Infinity Wedding Day Photos 401With the candles, make sure they will not melt wax over everything on the table and ruin all your hard work, (if a fan or air conditioning vent points directly at the table use candles inside a vase so they do not go out all night) also, make sure they burn for at least 5 hours and are either very low height or on a candelabra and not at eye level so people on either sides of the table can still see each other.

It's the DayTable names are also a nice touch. Most wedding reception centres will provide you with standard numbers on each table, i find it much more interesting to name your tables instead. Think of something that will tie into your theme or just something fun, you could use romantic movie titles, Romantic cities you have visited together (you could include a picture as well), or just loving words like commitment, love, friendship etc.

These are just a few things to give you Wedding Decoration Ideas and to make your wedding day just a little bit extra special. Remember to try and think of some kind of general theme of that day, this will help you to narrow down your ideas, i know half my problems were having too many ideas for my wedding day! This can just be a colour, your favourite city, a movie you once saw or it could all start with a piece of pretty paper or fabric pattern. like this Cristina Re paper was my inspirationwedding theme ideas<–>

PostHeaderIcon Wedding Reception Decoration & Centerpieces For Weddings

Reception Centerpiece Ideas:

- Place 3 large pillar candles of the same width but different heights onto a framed mirror.  Put flowers or shells around the bases of the candles.  The mirror will reflect the centerpiece and make it appear twice as large.centerpeices for weddings

- Purchase large bowls made of clear plastic or glass.  Place one bowl at each table and surround it with flowers. Fill each bowl with water and put in three to five floating candles.  Light them just before the reception begins. You can also use this idea with goldfish instead of candles.

- A beautiful vase of flowers (real or silk) will do the trick. Again, make sure it’s low enough to talk over of high enough to talk under.

Centerpieces for weddings- Suspend groupings of chinese paper lanterns from the ceiling directly over each table.  Again, position them just high enough for guests to see one another, but low enough so they appear to be part of the table decorations.

- Place a balloon cluster at the center of each table.  Make sure it’s high enough so guests can still see each other

- If you have long rectangular tables for your reception, place bows of evergreens, green foliage, rose petals, or votive cups down the centers of the tables.  Work in a few pretty flowers or ribbon here and there.

- Take white or colorful tulle and gather it down the center of each rectangular table.  Nestle votive candles in glass holders at various locations in the tulle.  (Make sure the tulle does not contact the flame)

- Place fish bowls on small-framed mirrors or mirror tiles.  Fill with water and add live fish or shells.  This one is great for a nautical theme wedding.wedding decorating ideas

- Rent large candelabras with pillar candles for the center of each table.  Some can be very formal and hold flowers amongst the candles.  Check with your florist and rental shop to discuss these options.

- How about a gingerbread house or miniature Christmas tree for a holiday themed wedding?

- Hang large Christmas ornaments from the ceiling with ribbon or fishing line.  Tie a bow at the top of each ornament.  Hang in a staggered pattern directly above the tables.

- Freestanding topiaries shrubs make wonderful centerpieces by adding height and drama.  Decorate them with flowers, fruits, ivy or ribbons.

wedding reception decorationGeneral Ideas:

- Beautifully folded and pressed napkins add an elegant touch to the table.  Just search on the internet or YouTube for elegant napkin folding instructions.

- Make or purchase napkin rings to match the formality of your event.  Wrap a single silk rose around a napkin or use small cookie cutters or decorative beads as the ring.  The ideas are endless on this one.

- Scatter a unique confetti that coordinates with your reception theme, season or colors. (check that yur reception center allows confetti first as many dont.)

- Place a small vase with a single rose at each place setting.  Give them as favors.

- Wedding favors add that final touch to your tables and can be created in endless shapes, colors and themes.  A simple, yet elegant, favor is to take 5 sugared almonds and wrap them in tulle circles.  Tie with a beautiful ribbon and put one at each place setting, simple, traditional & not too fussy or silly.outdoor wedding ideas

- Skirt your tables to the floor for an elegant effect.  White or ivory table linens work best and show off the table accessories and centerpieces. (You can rent these or sometimes purchase them from online stores for less.)

- Place card holders can also be as simple as a pear or apple slit to hold the place card.  Decorate each one with ribbon or natural materials.  This idea is great for outdoor garden-themed weddings.

PostHeaderIcon Peacock Wedding Theme Decorating Ideas

Peacock feathers are a very colorful & gorgeous thing. I should however say that some people think they are bad luck.. I Do not know why & You know what…? I dont believe in those silly superstitions anyway! I say you make your own fete & a peacock feather here or there won’t change things! But if you are not sure you may want to look into it & decide if you believe them to be bad luck or not for yourself.

Peacock wedding

(Full credit for the above mood board goes to tastefully entertaining) Peacock feathers have beautiful colors & work well with many wedding color schemes. They work well with purples, greens, blues, blacks, silvers and whites. Also with brown & bronze depending on the shades.

Where to source them?

I found that many craft stores carry them or can order them in for you. As well as fabric stores, art supplies stores and Dollar stores.  You can also find many online craft supplies stores or ebay stores. Make sure they deliver to your area though before you get your hopes up.

They are available in long or short with eyes, as well as the swords (without eyes and more feathery)Peacock wedding

You can also get them as earrings which may be useful to dangle from a champagne flute as a wedding favour for female guests. I have also seen them with dyed stems so you can add them with another color like pink or yellow etc stems (otherwise the stems are a natural beige/white colour.)

What to do with them?

Centerpieces

Ask your florist to incorporate 2 or 3 only in amongst their arrangement, get them to use a low round fishbowl type vase with masses of short stemmed bright dark pink and purple flowers with lots of greenery. Have the feathers slightly taller than the flowers to stand out. A Purple table cloth works well too.

Wedding_Peacock

For a more subtle look and to highlight the peacock feathers you could use a tall vase with 3 long stemmed white lilys and some wicker or sticks or stick twinkle lights. Include 3-5 peacock feathers and use some of the swords (shorter greener peacock feathers that sometimes do not have an eye) that sit lower in the vase.

Also, you could use plain wicker & dodder vine to create a nest at the top of a vase, with a few feathers coming out the top.

Invitations

See above mood board – a card with a sleeve made out of colored card and the feather.

See below for pics of peacock papers & invitations – from Cristina Re papers

Peacock Wedding

Placecards & napkin accents

Use a peacock paper (as above colourful or as below subtle) or place a feather on top of each napkin inside the napkin ring.

peacock wedding

peacock weddingYou can use peacock feathers in any manner of ways for your wedding (just dont go too overboard as they are a very colourful thing, max 3-5 used together in any one thing. Remember – less is sometimes more.

Have fun researching & don’t forget to comment on my article with your thoughts. If you end up having a peacock themed wedding, I’d love it if you could share the pictures with me & the rest of my readers after your big day.

PostHeaderIcon Mix and Match Pieces at Your Wedding

I’ve been thinking about some of my favorite real weddings that I’ve ever seen (in real life or on other blogs & magazines), and many of them have a common trait: They have some element of mixing and matching to them. I was a classically beautiful backyard affair. Here’s a look at the centerpieces, done by Livia Cetti, a former full-time member of the MSW team who now has her own floral business.

So, where’s the mix-n-match? It’s all over the tables in the use of Lily’s mother’s different china collections.  Each table got its own pattern.

Mwa103550_sum08_plate04_xlMwa103550_sum08_plate09_xl

another recent favorite, mixed it up using a collection of different fabrics. Below you can see her seating card arrangement. Each card held a swatch of the napkin fabric on that table, an easy visual cue for guests to find their seats.

One of my all-time favorite weddings was in France.  They walked from the cathedral to the reception center, where guests and friends of the family contributed china and table linens to decorate the hall. What I’ve always loved is how the room came together so beautifully using all these different pieces from a variety of sources, and how appropriate it seems to involve your friends and family in the wedding day process.

Are you doing any mixing and matching at your wedding? Is it something you’re doing yourself or with the help of friends and family? Are you integrating any heirlooms or collections into your decor in any way?

PostHeaderIcon Wedding Decorating Ideas Using Plaid!

(Posted by Britni Wood, Style Expert of Martha Steward Weddings)

I’m just mad! Mad for plaid, that is. What better way to celebrate the first day of fall than with this timeless pattern. I have a few inspirations I’d love to share with you, the first two coming from Vivienne Westwood, famed designer and activist. Vivienne recently paired with Cole & Son Wallpaper to create some of the most beautiful wall coverings I have ever seen. She also designed plaid into her Autumn/Winter collection this year! The second two images come from the Winter 2002 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. Now, were we ahead of the times or what? I just love the idea of using a pattern as wedding inspiration. The options are really limitless as to what you can do with a great textile. Do you plan on using a pattern or textile (or plaid) as design inspiration for your wedding?

And, as if that weren’t enough, here’s how one real bride incorporated some plaid into her autumn wedding.

PostHeaderIcon Wedding Decorating Ideas – Centerpieces For Weddings

I’ve just read this article on another blog I love so I had to share it. It’s wedding decorating ideas using “The Trusty Cylinder” – Enjoy! – Amy

Cylinder-shaped containers are an old standby for us. They’re so versatile (not to mention inexpensive), and we’ve covered them in everything: ribbon, wood veneer, paper, lace, rubber stamps, fabric, wallpaper, and I’m sure plenty of other things that aren’t coming to mind. Here are some of my favorites

How many of you are using the trusty cylinder at your wedding? And what are you doing to dress them up?

PostHeaderIcon How To Choose A Wedding Theme

Before you get started looking into wedding decorating ideas, you’ll need to establish what theme you would like to have.

A theme can be as simple as a “feeling” you want your guests to get from your wedding or as specific as a movie you watched or a decade in time.

Cant’ think of a theme? As long as you know what “feel” you want your wedding to have, that’s enough. One way to get wedding decorating ideas is to think about how you would want your wedding described by your guests to their friends? Would you want them saying “It was a really great day, very casual, we had so much fun!” Or would you want them saying “It was very traditional, we really felt privileged to be a part of their special day.” Or something else entirely?

Subscibe to your favorite Bridal magazines & keep an eye out for things that you love.
You can subscribe online at amazon.com to many of your favourites by clicking below

One way to decide is also to not think about it, but just let it happen naturally and you will soon discover your style by the types of things that catch your eye in magazines or shop windows. Start by looking away from the bridal industry.

A good place to look is at scrapbooking or fabric material. Find a piece of paper or a fabric pattern that you love and you can’t look past, you don’t have to want to use it for your invitations but this is your style. You want people to say, that wedding was just so “you” don’t you? Well let your wedding decorating ideas stem from what you already like in life and your theme will emerge naturally.

Another way is to let whatever you have already decided/bought/booked determine your theme. My husband & I got married at a reception centre in Sydney, Australia called Curzon Hall. It was an ex-monastery and a beautiful sandstone castle-type grand building.

This was the first thing we decided on so I knew that all my other decisions had to make sense within that backdrop. We found an old sandstone church which also had a lot of history which was nearby and when shopping for a dress, i preferred slim line dresses but I just knew that I wasn’t giving that big grand reception room justice by wearing someMy Wedding Fairytalething modern so I ended up in the gorgeous Maggie Sottero Victoriana (although their entire range is gorgeous) in an antique light gold. It is a full gown with lots of lace, taffeta and organza. I had 10 layers on that day, and can I say that it was good to be able to sit comfortable and exhale once I got to the hotel room and got that dress off!

So my theme emerged organically and it wasn’t until the day when my mother called it a “Amy’s Dream Disney Wedding” that I realised that yes this was a truly traditional fairytale themed wedding, which thinking about it now was a little unoriginal but it suited us and that is all that counts after all.

So, if you have already booked your reception or church, bought your wedding dress or anything like that, ask your friends or mum what “theme” they think that particular thing is and they will help you.

Also to get more wedding decorating ideas and themes, visit other reception centres and wedding expo open days, often they will have displays which are absolutely great for getting ideas from! You can also spend a few hours in a craft shop playing around with different pieces until you see something you like.

You can always also go to a professional wedding planner or a florist. Many offer free initial consultations so you can visit with them to help you get ideas. Don’t waste too much of their time though, but it is an idea. My florist was excellent. I had no idea what kind of flowers i wanted, although I did know what I did not want! I showed him a picture of my dress and of the bridesmaids dresses, and he knew the reception centre well so he just went away and said “I know what would be perfect for you” and you know what? It was! He was quite a bit more expensive than other florists I had visited but I went with him in the end because he “got me”. Also he was negotiable so ended up being only a little bit more expensive. J

So there are many ways you can come up with Themes for your Wedding Decorating Ideas, but just remember no to get too stressed, after all – it’s your wedding and nobody else needs to know how you came to your ideas or even if you have a theme at all!
