Wedding Theme Idea – Ancient Greek Wedding Theme
Most women, if not all, hope to marry the man of their dreams. So, if you are one of the lucky women who are doing just that, then you just might see your husband-to-be as one of the remarkable Greek gods. For your own wedding, why not go for an ancient Greek wedding theme? Now, do no think of your wedding to be like your ordinary Greek toga party held during college because this is certainly not the case. This is actually a popular misconception because of the usual Greek parties help by fraternities and sororities in just about any college. Although these parties are indeed fun in nature, they do not encompass the elegance of weddings. It is also because of this popular association that this wedding theme has been overlooked by so many people these days. Still, if you do take the time to consider this option, you just might find the perfect theme for your wedding.
Of course, when you are implementing this theme, you definitely have a lot of things to deal with. An ancient Greek wedding goes way beyond just the decorations of the environment. You also have to consider the aspects of appearance for you and your husband-to-be, as well as that of your guests.
Your wedding gown has to be patterned and designed in such a way that the ancient styles favored by the Greeks during their time would be properly manifested. There are so many tasteful designs that you can choose from. Have you ever seen sculptures of Greek goddesses, such as Aphrodite? Their delicate dresses can be used as patterns for your wedding dress. Imagine how timeless, classic, and elegant you would look! Complete your gown with simple wedding sandals so reminiscent of ancient Greek fashion, and you are good to go!
Try to find a facility that comes with pillars, so that you can get that Greek atmosphere for your wedding. But if you cannot find such a facility, you can then use Styrofoam to create your pillars. This is not as easy as it may seem, but with the help of friends and family, you can still capture that ambiance you are aiming for. You can also place Greek urns at strategic locations all over the room. These urns can be purchased at just about any craft store you can find. You can even purchase these online.
But if you really want that stellar ancient Greek wedding theme , then you should consider renting a fog machine. The presence of fog can add to that Mount Olympus feeling for your wedding. You can use the fog machine for your ceremony itself or for your reception!

Nature Inspired Wedding Theme Ideas
“Cherry Blossom” Wedding Theme
The bloom of the cherry tree is a symbol of natural beauty. The cherry blossom has become a very popular wedding theme due to the emergence of spring and the colors inspired by the pink and white blossoms.
You can find great formal bridal dresses beautifully designed on the market. Elegant and attractive wedding blossom invitations, decorative cherry blossom cakes and blossom wedding favors are great to use for this theme.
The accessories are unlimited. The cherry blossom wedding theme is great for spring season weddings and symbolizes the start of a new relationship.
“Be Green” Wedding Theme
Do you want to “Be Green” and focus on the environment? You can use this as your wedding theme! Many natural and green items can be incorporated in a “green wedding theme” to encourage caring for the environment.
Flowers seeds or a nice little organic plant pot used as a favor for your guests can honor and start protecting our world.
Part of your wedding accessories could be to select a green apple or lime( color) for a cool , fresh and modern look. Select organic materials for tablecloths , napkins and maybe for the bridesmaid dresses.
Decorate the reception with plants, greenery and shrubs for a natural feeling on your special day. Remind everyone how important it is to partake in caring for the earth .
“Sea World” Wedding Theme
I recommend the “Sea World” wedding for couples who really love the beauty and inspirations of sea life. Maybe you will be inspired by starfish, seashells or the huge variety of ocean fish and corals .
You can find great favors like stoppers, candle holders, cake toppers and decorative dishes accented with shells, dolphins and starfish. A message in a bottle with a short poem inside is the perfect invitation to reflect your theme. And don’t forget that you can spread sand over the center of the tables to complement a unique centerpiece.
“Inspirational Garden” Wedding Theme
Do you love flowers? I think when we see a beautiful garden with wonderful and different colorful flowers, they give inspiration for paintings, photos or even wedding themes.
Don‘t think that by using all these colors your wedding will end up looking like a carnival. It all depends on how you pick the details and items to show off the colors in a sophisticated way. Select two or three colors from beautiful flowers that can be an inspiration for your wedding and mix those flowers into the reception and decorations. Wedding planners and magazines are a great help.
“Passion of Coffee” Wedding Theme
This theme was started because coffee is the number one favorite drink in the world. Very delectable and with an exquisite aroma it will be one of your favorite themes. Create centerpieces filled with the natural coffee beans and candles.
For favors buy gourmet coffee beans , coffee candles, or coffee chocolate candies. If your wedding is small you can serve coffee cocktail at your reception.

Fall Wedding Themes Ideas for a Romantic Wedding
Autumn is quite a popular choice when it comes to seasonal weddings. This can be attributed to the fact that nature just bursts with very vibrant colors that any wedding becomes even more beautiful! And you can use this invigorating change of colors to your benefit! Still, you can go beyond relying on these usual changes that come with autumn. There is because there are fall wedding themes that you can use for your own wedding. With the many options, you have to find the answer to this important question: which of these fall wedding themes appeals to you?
Delicious Apples
Autumn is the ultimate season for picking apples. You can incorporate this very fulfilling event into your wedding. It is actually very easy to do this. The simple act of adding apples into just about everything for your wedding is more than enough. Think wedding favors and wedding decorations for a minute here. You can place a plate of apples and apple slices for every table for your guests. You can also make use of apple candles with candle holders that are shaped like apples as well. And if that is not enough, you can serve your guests apple pie, apple cider, apple sauce, and other delicious apple treats!
Pretty Pumpkins
When autumn hits, you definitely have two holidays to look forward to: Halloween and Thanksgiving. For both holidays, the pumpkin is definitely a mainstay in any household. If you plan to hold your wedding during the fall, then you can make use of pumpkin items for your wedding decorations and wedding favors. For instance, you can serve your guests boxes of pumpkin cookies, or chocolates in the shape of pumpkins. You can also adorn your place of reception with decorations in different shades of yellow and orange. When you add dark green or chocolate brown to these colors, it actually makes the perfect combination for a pumpkin-themed wedding.
Grapes, Wine, and Vineyard
The shades of green, purple, and red are very important when you want to go for this theme. There are just so many things you can do with grapes, wine, and vineyard themes. For starters, you can use fruit displays of grapes for every guest table you are having. They make great centerpieces as well. As for wedding favors, you can go for wine glass charms, wine goblet card holders, and even wine stoppers. As for your wedding decorations, you can use vines to give that romantic ambiance of being in a vineyard.
So, which of these fall wedding themes appeals to you? Whatever you choose, just remember to discuss this with your partner and your families so that you can also get their input on the matter.

Wedding Reception Decoration & Centerpieces For Weddings
Reception Centerpiece Ideas:
- Place 3 large pillar candles of the same width but different heights onto a framed mirror. Put flowers or shells around the bases of the candles. The mirror will reflect the centerpiece and make it appear twice as large.
- Purchase large bowls made of clear plastic or glass. Place one bowl at each table and surround it with flowers. Fill each bowl with water and put in three to five floating candles. Light them just before the reception begins. You can also use this idea with goldfish instead of candles.
- A beautiful vase of flowers (real or silk) will do the trick. Again, make sure it’s low enough to talk over of high enough to talk under.
- Suspend groupings of chinese paper lanterns from the ceiling directly over each table. Again, position them just high enough for guests to see one another, but low enough so they appear to be part of the table decorations.
- Place a balloon cluster at the center of each table. Make sure it’s high enough so guests can still see each other
- If you have long rectangular tables for your reception, place bows of evergreens, green foliage, rose petals, or votive cups down the centers of the tables. Work in a few pretty flowers or ribbon here and there.
- Take white or colorful tulle and gather it down the center of each rectangular table. Nestle votive candles in glass holders at various locations in the tulle. (Make sure the tulle does not contact the flame)
- Place fish bowls on small-framed mirrors or mirror tiles. Fill with water and add live fish or shells. This one is great for a nautical theme wedding.
- Rent large candelabras with pillar candles for the center of each table. Some can be very formal and hold flowers amongst the candles. Check with your florist and rental shop to discuss these options.
- How about a gingerbread house or miniature Christmas tree for a holiday themed wedding?
- Hang large Christmas ornaments from the ceiling with ribbon or fishing line. Tie a bow at the top of each ornament. Hang in a staggered pattern directly above the tables.
- Freestanding topiaries shrubs make wonderful centerpieces by adding height and drama. Decorate them with flowers, fruits, ivy or ribbons.
General Ideas:
- Beautifully folded and pressed napkins add an elegant touch to the table. Just search on the internet or YouTube for elegant napkin folding instructions.
- Make or purchase napkin rings to match the formality of your event. Wrap a single silk rose around a napkin or use small cookie cutters or decorative beads as the ring. The ideas are endless on this one.
- Scatter a unique confetti that coordinates with your reception theme, season or colors. (check that yur reception center allows confetti first as many dont.)
- Place a small vase with a single rose at each place setting. Give them as favors.
- Wedding favors add that final touch to your tables and can be created in endless shapes, colors and themes. A simple, yet elegant, favor is to take 5 sugared almonds and wrap them in tulle circles. Tie with a beautiful ribbon and put one at each place setting, simple, traditional & not too fussy or silly.
- Skirt your tables to the floor for an elegant effect. White or ivory table linens work best and show off the table accessories and centerpieces. (You can rent these or sometimes purchase them from online stores for less.)
- Place card holders can also be as simple as a pear or apple slit to hold the place card. Decorate each one with ribbon or natural materials. This idea is great for outdoor garden-themed weddings.
Peacock Wedding Theme Decorating Ideas
Peacock feathers are a very colorful & gorgeous thing. I should however say that some people think they are bad luck.. I Do not know why & You know what…? I dont believe in those silly superstitions anyway! I say you make your own fete & a peacock feather here or there won’t change things! But if you are not sure you may want to look into it & decide if you believe them to be bad luck or not for yourself.

(Full credit for the above mood board goes to tastefully entertaining) Peacock feathers have beautiful colors & work well with many wedding color schemes. They work well with purples, greens, blues, blacks, silvers and whites. Also with brown & bronze depending on the shades.
Where to source them?
I found that many craft stores carry them or can order them in for you. As well as fabric stores, art supplies stores and Dollar stores. You can also find many online craft supplies stores or ebay stores. Make sure they deliver to your area though before you get your hopes up.
They are available in long or short with eyes, as well as the swords (without eyes and more feathery)
You can also get them as earrings which may be useful to dangle from a champagne flute as a wedding favour for female guests. I have also seen them with dyed stems so you can add them with another color like pink or yellow etc stems (otherwise the stems are a natural beige/white colour.)
What to do with them?
Centerpieces
Ask your florist to incorporate 2 or 3 only in amongst their arrangement, get them to use a low round fishbowl type vase with masses of short stemmed bright dark pink and purple flowers with lots of greenery. Have the feathers slightly taller than the flowers to stand out. A Purple table cloth works well too.

For a more subtle look and to highlight the peacock feathers you could use a tall vase with 3 long stemmed white lilys and some wicker or sticks or stick twinkle lights. Include 3-5 peacock feathers and use some of the swords (shorter greener peacock feathers that sometimes do not have an eye) that sit lower in the vase.
Also, you could use plain wicker & dodder vine to create a nest at the top of a vase, with a few feathers coming out the top.
Invitations
See above mood board – a card with a sleeve made out of colored card and the feather.
See below for pics of peacock papers & invitations – from Cristina Re papers

Placecards & napkin accents
Use a peacock paper (as above colourful or as below subtle) or place a feather on top of each napkin inside the napkin ring.

You can use peacock feathers in any manner of ways for your wedding (just dont go too overboard as they are a very colourful thing, max 3-5 used together in any one thing. Remember – less is sometimes more.
Have fun researching & don’t forget to comment on my article with your thoughts. If you end up having a peacock themed wedding, I’d love it if you could share the pictures with me & the rest of my readers after your big day.
Mix and Match Pieces at Your Wedding
I’ve been thinking about some of my favorite real weddings that I’ve ever seen (in real life or on other blogs & magazines), and many of them have a common trait: They have some element of mixing and matching to them. I was a classically beautiful backyard affair. Here’s a look at the centerpieces, done by Livia Cetti, a former full-time member of the MSW team who now has her own floral business.
So, where’s the mix-n-match? It’s all over the tables in the use of Lily’s mother’s different china collections. Each table got its own pattern.
another recent favorite, mixed it up using a collection of different fabrics. Below you can see her seating card arrangement. Each card held a swatch of the napkin fabric on that table, an easy visual cue for guests to find their seats.
One of my all-time favorite weddings was in France. They walked from the cathedral to the reception center, where guests and friends of the family contributed china and table linens to decorate the hall. What I’ve always loved is how the room came together so beautifully using all these different pieces from a variety of sources, and how appropriate it seems to involve your friends and family in the wedding day process.
Are you doing any mixing and matching at your wedding? Is it something you’re doing yourself or with the help of friends and family? Are you integrating any heirlooms or collections into your decor in any way?

Wedding Decorating Ideas Using Plaid!
(Posted by Britni Wood, Style Expert of Martha Steward Weddings)
I’m just mad! Mad for plaid, that is. What better way to celebrate the first day of fall than with this timeless pattern. I have a few inspirations I’d love to share with you, the first two coming from Vivienne Westwood, famed designer and activist. Vivienne recently paired with Cole & Son Wallpaper to create some of the most beautiful wall coverings I have ever seen. She also designed plaid into her Autumn/Winter collection this year! The second two images come from the Winter 2002 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings. Now, were we ahead of the times or what? I just love the idea of using a pattern as wedding inspiration. The options are really limitless as to what you can do with a great textile. Do you plan on using a pattern or textile (or plaid) as design inspiration for your wedding?

And, as if that weren’t enough, here’s how one real bride incorporated some plaid into her autumn wedding.

One theme you can use is a colour!
My bridesmaids were purple so along with my fairytale theme, I tried to include some purple in the day.

- white & cream
- plum colours and deep reds
